Our trip to the 2007 Nationals in Victoria was great as usual.   We headed down the pacific highway hoping the long lengths of freeway would help, but that was a dismal idea. Apart from a relatively quick run around sydney, it was a terribly slow trip, with poor weather , lots of poor roads and plenty of traffic. Afrer a 16 hour drive, we stayed in a B&B at Golburn, we have used before..

The rainy weather started again once we got to Phillip Island and washed out the 1st days’ Councourse. Thankfully the weather stayed good for the remainder of the week and trip home. The week was busy as usual, with a mix of social and competition events.

Changing the oil after Phillip Island racing revealed a few nasty bits of metal which were diagnosed as a timing chain roller.  When we got it apart we also found the spigot on the nsoe of the cam shaft broken. A few hours later, all was repaired and we were ready to go again.

Thanks to prior notice from other Triumph racers, were able to compete at the annual historic races at Sandown. Adrian drove in Regularity while Terrry was invited to race with Gp.N historic tourers. This event was superbly organised and ran like clockwork. Amongst the 300 entiries were a fantastic array of racing cars from the 1930’s to recent. Unfortunately, there were only 3 other Triumphs; TR3, TR4 & TR6. MG’s however managed to field a grid of over 20 cars for their own races. After racing we visited Ian Watt who races a very successful Mk2 PI in Gp.N, having sold his Mk1 2000 racer.

We took the inland route home which was much faster trip. We stopped to visit TSOA member Ron Thorpe at Inverell on the way home, and checked out his collection of Triumphs (1920’s to recent) and other interesting things. Those who went to the Bowdens museum would have seen Rons’ AC Cobra race car.
