Midnight to Dawn Run 17/18 October "Start will be at the BP servo at 850 Waterworks Road The Gap and the finish will be at Jolly's Lookout..." (see below for details - Peter tells me they will be heading up Toowoomba way for the drive)
Renault Car Club of Queensland
Hi all,
October is upon us already, with the Bathurst 1000 not far off and the A1 GP cars at Surfers Paradise we in the club have our now annual Midnight till Dawn drive on 17/18 October. If you are a motoring enthusiasts and enjoy driving your 'beast' on a good but challenging country road then this is the event for you. Hopefully no dawdling tourists or 'drivers' with no interest in motoring and/or driving ability to get in your way and spoil your perfect line through the twisty hills... it also helps if you are a night owl and enjoy driving at night, your car certainly does.
I am the organiser of this year's event to give Graeme and Annette a break as they did the last two. For a change of scenery, we will be heading west and back, a distance of a little over 400km, all bitumen, with a break at a 24hr fuel stop about mid way (98 RON fuel available). Navigation will be as easy and straight forward as I can make it; the emphasis will be on enjoying the drive not navigation. And just for the record, this is not a race, there is no time limit, places or prizes. Just a good drive without the 'traffic' and drive at our own pace, what ever you enjoy. There is no encouragement or need to break the law.
Start will be at the BP servo at 850 Waterworks Road The Gap and the finish will be at Jolly's Lookout, hopefully in time to see the sunrise. The view of Moreton Island is fantastic from this location and the sunrise should be good if the sky is clear. We then normally have a BYO BBQ brekkie and this is a good location for that with nice picnic tables and BBQs. If you can't make it for the drive, consider coming up for the sunrise and BBQ.
Now for the bad news, if we don't have rain between now and then there will be no BBQing with a total fire ban in place (wood fired BBQs). Plan B will be to continue down the hill into The Gap after watching the sunrise and have brekkie at McD's. I am open to better solutions if you have one. Also, because we are having our Midnight to Dawn latter this year, we get one hour less of black air before the sunrise and this event will be the longest so far. Consequently, it will have to start at 11pm not Midnight.
Updates will be provided before the event, but mark it on your calendar if you are interested. We only had four cars last year (3 club cars) so it would be good to get a few more this year. I hope we have a few more 'drivers' in the club than that! If you know someone not in the club that may be interested, please pass on the details to them, all are welcome
